Enhancement in Bioavailability of CurCousin®, a Minor Metabolite from Curcuma longa by Addition of BioPerine® —A Pharmacokinetic Study
Journal of Biosciences and Medicines, 2024, 12, 282-293
Objective
The study was conducted to investigate the pharmacokinetic study and bioavailability of CurCousin® at two different doses (2.25 and 4.5 mg/kg) in the presence and absence of BioPerine® , a natural bioenhancer in Sprague-Dawley rats.
Results
The AUC0-24h of CurCousin® (2.25 mg/kg) administered with BioPerine® (0.27 mg/kg) showed 97.44% increase over the AUC0-24h of CurCousin® (4.5 mg/kg) without BioPerine®. Thus, inferring that in the presence of BioPerine® the bioavailability of CurCousin® can be increased by 2 folds.
Conclusion
The pharmacokinetic study signify that the addition of BioPerine® (0.27 mg/kg) with CurCousin® (2.25 mg/kg) can enhance the bioavailability and reduce the effective dose of CurCousin® (4.5 mg/kg).
